Onwards and upwards in 2018!< Back to Blog
There’s a Royal baby expected in April, a Royal wedding planned for May, the World Cup kicks off in June and Brexit talks will no doubt continue to divide opinion throughout the entire year!
For the construction industry, the forecast is that the sector will expand by just 0.7% during 2018. That’s the slowest rate of growth in six years, with difficulties coming from a combination of falling real wages and sharp rises in costs. (Construction Products Association)
But, among all of this, what will 2018 bring for Sheriff?
Well, continuing with our aim to grow the company’s turnover and professional standing, we’ve decided that the key word for us this year is going to be INVESTMENT!
To us, that means lots of things – investing in our team, investing in client relations, investing in technology, investing in our own property developments and investing in our community. While, some of these areas of work are still in the early planning stages, here’s a little preview of some of what’s to come:
Property development – Having tested the water by developing two of our own sites (Russell Street in 2016 and Brook Street in 2017), Sheriff is now preparing for a new phase of business in the form of a house building division. Look out for an announcement of an exciting new property conversion in a popular area of Luton coming soon.
Tech – While we have yet to make any concrete decisions about how new technology can support our work, this year we’re going to be taking some time to assess our options. We’re particularly interested to find out more about the potential for emerging technologies like AI, smart materials, smart machinery, 3D printing, drones and robotics in construction. Get in touch if you come across anything interesting.
Clients – Across both our brickwork and roofing divisions, Sheriff has built a good portfolio of work with key clients. In 2018, we’ll be looking to strengthen our ties with existing clients even further while also exploring new opportunities with contractors across London, the South East and potentially along the Oxford-Cambridge corridor.
Community – As a family-run business, community means a lot to us. We think our company has reached a stage where it could be doing a bit more to support the local community as well as others further afield. We’re considering a range of options that include everything from supporting charities through donations or volunteering to incorporating spaces that can be used by community groups within our own developments. We want our team and supporters to be part of this process so do give us your ideas too!
We’ll be using this blog to keep you up to date with how things progress over the year ahead, so keep checking back for more.
Meanwhile, Happy New Year to all!
