Sheriff Construction turns 20 this August and we’re marking the milestone in more ways than one. As well as celebrating two decades of teamwork, resilience and growth, we’re also taking on a major challenge: to raise £20,000 for charity by the end of 2025.

This ambitious fundraising target is our way of giving back to the communities and causes that matter to us – and it reflects our team’s generous spirit and determination to make a real difference. Find out more in this week’s blog.

The causes we’re backing

Choosing just a few charities to support throughout the year was no easy task, so we asked our team for input. After some great suggestions and heartfelt conversations, we selected three incredible organisations that touch the lives of many:

British Heart Foundation
Every three minutes, someone in the UK dies from cardiovascular disease. The British Heart Foundation is fighting back through groundbreaking research, support services, and lifesaving public education – the goal being to save and improve lives.

Dementia UK
With one in two of us likely to be affected by dementia, dementia is one of the biggest health challenges of our time. Dementia UK provides vital support to families through its specialist Admiral Nurses, offering expert guidance, compassion, and care.

SOS Silence of Suicide
Suicide claims over 19 lives a day in the UK (and construction workers are four times more likely to take their own lives than the national average). SOS Silence of Suicide offers free, confidential support to those in crisis and to anyone worried about a loved one.

Fundraising in action

There are various ways we are trying to achieve our fundraising target throughout the year with both individual challenges and with some bigger events.

We kicked things off in February when several team members committed to quitting smoking for the month, raising £700 through sponsorships – and a few fines for rule-breakers!

Then, during May, the office team set out to collectively walk 1,000 miles for the British Heart Foundation. With just days to go, they’re nearly there and have already raised over £1,300. Our aim is to reach £2,000 so please visit our JustGiving page here to show your support.

What’s next?

Our Big Summer Charity BBQ takes place on 27th June, outside our Head Office (weather permitting). Everyone working at Sheriff is invited for an evening of family fun, food and fundraising.

Highlights include:

  • Bouncy castle and face painting for the kids
  • ‘Sports Day’ style games like tug of war, penalty shootout, wheelbarrow races, 100m dash and a PPE relay race
  • A Sheriff-themed quiz – with a reward for the winner and forfeits for the losers!

We’ll also be hosting a raffle, with some fantastic prizes donated by our generous suppliers and clients (thank you to all). Think gift cards, wine and spirits, boots, beer and hampers! Raffle tickets will be available on the day for £10 per strip, with donations accepted in cash or via QR code. If you would like to contribute a prize, please get in touch with our office – email info@sheriffconstruction.co.uk or call 01582 591908.

Naturally, no BBQ would be complete without some great food and drinks so all that’s left to do is pray for sunshine!

[Note to any Sheriff supervisors reading this blog today: more details about the event will be coming soon, including a request to confirm team numbers.]

What’s in the pipeline?

To reach our £20,000 target, we’ll need to keep the fundraising momentum going and so will soon be announcing a schedule of other events. Our ideas include ‘culture days’ with the team making and selling traditional dishes, car wash days and a hiking challenge. There’s even a rumour going around that one or possibly two of our team might be up for taking on a sky dive!

Help us make it happen

We’re incredibly proud to be turning 20 this year and will be coming back to what that means to us on the actual anniversary date in August. Meanwhile, we’re equally proud of the heart our team is showing through this Charity Challenge. Every step walked, every raffle ticket bought, every penny raised will help improve lives through our chosen causes.

Got an idea to help us hit our target? Let us know by commenting on our Facebook or LinkedIn pages or contact the office directly. We’d love to hear from you!
