This week, three members of the Sheriff Brickworks team delivered online workshops to Level 1 and Level 2 bricklaying students at Barnet College.
The sessions were held at the request of our client, Fairview, as part of their commitment to supporting the local community around the Victoria Quarter site (where Sheriff is currently delivering a major brickwork contract). Find out more in an extra mini blog for this week.
Supporting the next generation of bricklayers
The workshops, held on 10th and 11th December, were led by Contracts Managers Shahin and Resul, plus Luca, our Apprentice QS. Each 30-minute session offered an engaging introduction to the trade – covering the background to our organisation, what tasks are carried out in the day-to-day life of a bricklayer, the key skills and attitudes needed for success, the variety and rewards of the role, and examples from Sheriff Brickworks’ growing portfolio.
Students also had the chance to ask questions, and many expressed a strong interest in joining Sheriff in the future.
Perpetua Manuelpillai, Careers Adviser at Barnet College, commented:
“Thank you so much for your time yesterday and today presenting careers information to our Bricklaying classes. The students found the information valuable and no doubt it will help them to remain motivated to complete the course successfully and move onto employment / apprenticeships.
“We would love to continue working with you and if you have time, have an in-person workshop on applications for the apprenticeship / training programme. Almost all students are interested and happy to start from a position that will allow them to progress.”
Looking ahead
As a company, Sheriff is passionate about encouraging new talent into the construction industry and providing clear routes to skilled, long-term careers. Following the success of these sessions, we’ll be exploring more opportunities to partner with local colleges in 2026 – including the potential for additional workshops and potential work experience placements.
