On Saturday 8th November, Sheriff Construction held a charity football tournament at Play Football in Stopsley, Luton, as part of our Big Charity Challenge celebrating 20 years in business.

As well as giving our teams and their supporters a great afternoon out, the event has raised an incredible amount for our three charities of the year. Keep reading to find out how the tournament played out – and which team was finally crowned the winners!

Match day drama

Kicking off at 2.00pm, the event saw four 7-a-side teams from across Sheriff’s roofing, brickwork and development divisions competing against each other:

  • Brick by Brick – headed up by Shahin and Resul
  • Flat Top Roofers – led by Qerim
  • Sheriff on the Roof – captained by Arsim
  • Crestview United – led by Mark

Cheered on by family and friends, the tournament began with Brick by Brick winning 3–2 against Sheriff on the Roof, followed by Crestview United beating Flat Top Roofers with a score of 5–2.

After a short break, the competition heated up as Sheriff on the Roof bounced back with a 6–3 win over their rivals Flat Top Roofers. Then it was time for the final between Brick by Brick and Crestview United.

At half-time, Crestview were ahead 3–0, but in the second half Brick by Brick came back with renewed energy to draw level and then pull ahead 4–3. With both teams fighting to the very end, more goals followed and, with the score at 5–5, the final whistle was blown.

It all came down to penalties. Both sides literally gave it their best shot, but Crestview United were eventually crowned the winners.

Watch the moment Crestview won here.

Congratulations to Mark, Bernard, Bledi, Fatmir, Altin, Rruxhdi and Ervisi, and very well done to everyone else who took part in this fantastic event.

Playing for more than just pride

As well as keeping their eyes on the ball and their best feet forward, each team was raising funds for Sheriff Construction’s three charities of the year:

  • British Heart Foundation
  • Dementia UK
  • SOS Silence of Suicide

At the time of publishing this blog, the football tournament has raised £4,686.58, taking the total amount raised from all of our charity events so far this year to over £10,000.

A huge thank you to all our friends, family, clients, suppliers and colleagues who have given so generously to help us reach this milestone. Your support will help all three of our chosen charities to continue their vital work and change lives.
