As we approach the end of 2025, it’s once again time for Sheriff Construction to look back at everything this year has presented and begin making plans for the new year ahead.

From celebrating our 20th anniversary with a gala and charity challenge to securing some of our most significant roofing and brickwork contracts ever; from inspiring young people into our sector to building up our newest sister companies; and from achieving new accreditations to developing our response to cyber security, quality and social value – this year has truly given us lots to feel proud of. Join us in remembering our most special moments through our last blog of 2025.

So many highlights!

It’s been an extremely busy year with lots going on at Sheriff Construction, Sheriff Brickworks and our other sister companies. Here are some of our best bits:

  • Projects and staffing – Within Sheriff Construction (roofing), we worked across 19 projects, employing on average around 35 roofers at any given time; at Sheriff Brickworks, we worked at 8 sites, employing around 100 bricklayers.
  • Client relations – We continued to deliver high quality roofing and brickwork contracts across London and the Southeast, working with many long-standing clients and new ones (examples included Fairview, Bugler, Hills, Higgins, Crestview and Countryside).
  • Innovative works – Another exciting project involved supporting Higgins Partnerships to deliver 134 new homes on the former site of Hartopp Point and Lannoy Point towers in Fulham. This development is built to Passivhaus Classic Standards, meaning the design has a strong focus on energy-efficiency as well as genuine community engagement, affordability and residents’ health/ wellbeing. Sheriff Brickworks took on the internal blockwork at ground level and the external brick-clad façade (incorporating reconstituted stone banding) while Sheriff Construction’s roofing team was integral in the design and installation of a cutting-edge waterproofing system with blue and green roof finishes to meet the U Value of 0.11.
  • Accreditations – In April, Sheriff Construction became an official Trade Member of the National Federation of Roofing Contractors (NFRC), meaning we’ve met the highest industry standards and passed rigorous vetting to ensure quality, professionalism and reliability. In July, we were officially approved as an installer of Ryno paving and decking systems and, throughout the year, we successfully renewed several other accreditations, including CHAS, SMAS, CQMS, Builders’ Profile and Gold membership of Constructionline.
  • Sister companies’ progress – Our property development ventures continued to make progress through our sister company, Crestview Homes – bringing one project in Seymour Avenue, Luton close to completion and beginning work on another significant development site in Dunstable. We also launched McLains in Luton, an agency specialising in residential property sales and lettings, expert property management, off-market property deals and land development opportunities.
  • Impactful practices – We began looking closer at some key issues for our industry – cyber security and quality – with greater intensity. We appointed internal champions to work on our response to these areas, leading to several rigorous practices such as subscribing to the highest tier Google Workspace for the best data protection, upskilling our teams and using independent auditors and safety specialists to test and sign off our works. We published two impact reports (for Cyber and Quality) and have now begun working on a third, focusing on how we create social value.
  • Safety and quality focus – We’re proud that Sheriff Construction has had no safety incidents reported in the past five years and can report an industry defect rate of just 0.005% (compared to 15% UK-wide average).
  • Celebrating Sheriff Construction’s 20th year in business – To commemorate this special milestone, we invited colleagues, clients, suppliers, friends and family to join us at a celebratory Anniversary Gala at Offley Place. Making the evening especially memorable was a guest of honour, Nurie Mahmutaj (mother of Sheriff’s founders/ shareholders) – who flew in from Albania to join the celebrations.
  • Big Charity Challenge – Also in honour of our 20th anniversary, we challenged ourselves to raise £20,000 for three amazing charities – the British Heart Foundation, Dementia Uk and SOS Silence of Suicide. Over the year, our team took part in lots of fundraising activities, including a sponsored ‘no smoking’ challenge; a 1,000-mile in one month walking goal; a summer BBQ with sports/ games and a raffle; the Luton 10k run; an auction at our Gala; and a Football Tournament! So far, we’ve raised around £12,000 and are planning a big push in the New Year to get us closer to our target.
  • More charity support – Ending the year with festive spirit, we held a Christmas jumper day and food drive – where our teams donated a stack of goods for Luton Foodbank.
  • Inspiring the next generation into construction – As well as supporting two Apprentice QS’s in our office, this year we had work experience students join us and delivered workshops to bricklaying students at Barnet College. After publishing a blog about Deaf Awareness Week on our social media, a local college made contact and worked with us to enable a deaf student to join us as a trainee bricklayer.
  • Staff training and development – Throughout the year, opportunities for staff included training on new building safety regulations, new fire safety training for both our site and office teams, ensuring all site workers have level 2 CSCS minimum and supporting our Contract Managers to achieve Level 7 Leaders in Construction.
  • Sharing our news and knowledge – We continued to use our website and weekly blog to share stories about our company alongside other topics of interest to our sector. This year, we published blogs on safety, awareness days, mental health/ wellbeing, technology updates, jobs/ roles in construction, government policy, our charity fundraising activities and more. We now have over 1600 followers on LinkedIn and around 500 on Facebook.

Managing Director, Ekrem Mahmutaj commented:

“Celebrating our 20th anniversary this year has made 2025 feel particularly poignant. It’s given us moments to reflect on how two decades of hard work, teamwork, resilience and growth transformed Sheriff from a micro-business into two specialist companies for roofing and brickworks plus our new ventures with Crestview and McLains. Each of these developments represents the next chapter of the Sheriff story – and it’s a story built on the same principles of integrity, craftsmanship and hard work that we started with back in 2005.

“This year, we’ve taken several opportunities to bring our colleagues, friends and family together – both to celebrate with us and to participate in our Big Charity Challenge, fundraising for three brilliant causes. I couldn’t be prouder of the efforts our team have put into making this a success.

“Over the years, Sheriff has built a reputation for quality, professionalism and reliability and everything we’ve achieved this year reflects this. My heartfelt thanks go to everyone who has supported us along the way – to our team (past and present) for their dedication and skill; to our clients and professional partners, for their trust and collaboration; and to our suppliers, who continue to support us in delivering excellence on every project.

“I hope everyone enjoys a well-deserved break over the holiday season and look forward to seeing our company’s continued prosperity and more exciting developments in 2026!”
