Last Thursday, Sheriff Construction officially marked its 20th Anniversary in business at a celebratory Gala – bringing colleagues, clients, suppliers, friends and family together for a truly memorably evening.

We gave a flavour of what happened on this special occasion on our social media last week with a promise to share a more detailed update. Now, take a look at this week’s blog for the full story.

Celebrating in style

As we entered our 20th year in business, it dawned on us that what began as a small family business (originally Sheriff Builders) has now evolved into a group of specialist companies delivering major roofing and brickwork contracts across London and the South East plus sister companies dedicated to property development and real estate management.

Such an achievement warranted a ‘dress to impress’ moment for the Sheriff team and our special guests, including colleagues, friends, family, clients and suppliers. Guest of honour was Nurie Mahmutaj, the mother of the company’s founder and current shareholders – Ekrem, Shahin and Arsim Mahmutaj – who flew in from Albania to join the celebrations.

Arriving at the luxurious Offley Place, near Hitchin, the evening began with a welcome drink followed by a delicious three-course meal with wine. There was a moment of concern when one the of the waiters appeared to drop a plate on the floor but that soon turned to delight when, joined by another ‘waiter’, the duo began to sing – belting out some sing-along tunes and even getting everyone up for a conga!

Following the entertainment, Sheriff’s Managing Director, Ekrem Mahmutaj, gave a short speech, acknowledging the evolution and success of the company, thanking everyone who has supported the company throughout its journey and reminding guests that, as well as celebrating, this evening was an opportunity to support the company’s charities of the year. Here’s some of what was said:

“We’re here tonight for two main reasons – both equally important. First, to celebrate 20 years of Sheriff Construction – two decades of hard work, teamwork, resilience and growth.

“Over the years, we’ve built a reputation for quality, professionalism and reliability – and I couldn’t be prouder of what this team has achieved. Today, Sheriff Construction regularly undertakes high-value projects, including over the past year alone, contracts worth £7 million in brickwork and £5.4 million in roofing.

“We’ve also grown into a family of companies that reflect how far we’ve come: Sheriff Roofing, Sheriff Brickworks, Limon Homes, Crestview Homes and our newest venture, McLains. Each of these represents the next chapter of the Sheriff story – and it’s a story built on the same principles of integrity, craftsmanship and hard work that we started with back in 2005.

“But none of this success would have been possible without the incredible people who’ve supported us along the way. So tonight, I want to say a huge thank you – to our team, past and present, for their dedication and skill; to our clients and professional partners, for their trust and collaboration; and to our suppliers, who continue to support us in delivering excellence on every project.

“The second reason we’re here tonight is to give back – because we believe success should always be shared. To mark our 20th year, we launched Sheriff’s Big Charity Challenge, supporting three amazing charities: Dementia UK, the British Heart Foundation, and SOS Silence of Suicide.

“Here’s to everyone who’s been part of the Sheriff journey so far – and to the next twenty years of success, growth and making a difference together.”

The speech lead neatly into the next chapter of the evening which was a charity auction with prizes ranging from football tickets and supercar experiences to cases of wine and power tools! (See the full list of prizes and their sponsors below)

The auction was the latest event in Sheriff’s charity fundraising efforts where we’re attempting to raise £20,000 (one for each year the company has been in business). Thanks to our generous sponsors and guests, we raised another £2,907.40 for the three charities that were selected earlier this year by our team.

After the auction concluded, the party ramped up as guests hit the dance floor and kept going until Midnight!

Thank you to all

Sheriff Construction would like to thank everyone who joined us along with staff at Offley Place and our own office team for organising an unforgettable night.

Extra thanks go out to our auction prize sponsors, without whom we couldn’t have added such a wonderful sum to our charity fundraising this year. These were:

  • Eco Green Roofing – 2 x Arsenal Tickets
  • IKO – Silverstone Ultimate Supercar Experience (and Entry to the Silverstone Museum)
  • Sheriff Construction – iPhone 17 (customisable)
  • Jewson – 100 Year Anniversary Limited Edition DeWalt Combi Drill
  • CVS Financial – Fortnum and Mason Hamper
  • Woburn Safari Park – Family Day Pass
  • Neil Lawrence – Case of 12 bottles of wine
  • The Grove Theatre, Dunstable – Family Cinema Ticket
  • Woodside Animal Farm – Entrance Tickets for Four

What’s next?

Sheriff’s calendar already has another great event coming up in November where we’ll continue our fundraising efforts – a football tournament with teams from our brickwork, roofing and development companies pitted against each other. Watch this space for more details coming soon.

Meanwhile, if anyone would like to add to our Gala fundraising pot with a donation, please do so HERE. Large or small, every pound raised will make a genuine difference to our three charities and the lives of those they support.
