Last Friday we held our first summer BBQ at Sheriff Construction and raised £2612 for a wonderful charity, Macmillan Cancer Support!

Around 80 people joined us, including from our roofing, brickwork, property development and office teams, all of which enjoyed some great food and drinks while giving generously to this worthy cause. Find out more and relive the evening in this week’s blog.

Getting together with the Sheriff family

Following the success of our yearly Christmas parties, this year, we decided we didn’t want to wait that long for another Sheriff get together and so decided to organise a BBQ at our office site.

The date was set for 7th July, the invitations went out and then we waited to see what the British weather would offer! Thankfully, it was a lovely warm, sunny day so everything could steam ahead.

On the day, our office team sprinted into action, clearing our company car park to make sure there was enough space, creating a bar out of pallets and decorating the whole area with flags and balloons (all in our company colours of blue and white plus a pop of sunshine yellow).

A trip to Bookers got the food and drinks sorted and, with three BBQs set up and ready, the Sheriff teams and their family members began to arrive from around 6.30pm onwards. After that, it was time to enjoy the food, drinks, music, dancing and, of course, each other’s company.

A bouncy castle and supplies of stickers, snacks and sweets proved to be a good way of keeping the kids happy!

Supporting our chosen charity

Aside from this being a brilliant evening, we decided to use the occasion to raise funds for charity.

Before the day arrived, we conducted a quick poll among some of our team to determine what kind of charity they would like to support and a cancer charity came out top of the list. Macmillan Cancer Support was selected because of the fantastic work they do in this field.

Macmillan are well-known for giving people with cancer everything they’ve got. If you’re diagnosed, your worries become Macmillan’s worries. Macmillan does whatever it takes but needs constant help from fundraisers to keep up this vital work.

To get the money rolling in, we set a small ticket price, created up a Just Giving page so people could donate online (simply by scanning a QR code) and held a raffle with prizes that included a John Lewis voucher, a hamper and a bottle of whisky.

Everyone gave generously and, by the end of the evening, we had raised £612 in online donations and another £1108 in cash. Sheriff Construction added £892 into that pot, making our grand total £2612! All of this has now been added into our JustGiving page, making sure every donation goes straight to Macmillan.

Managing Director, Ekrem Mahmutaj, commented:

“This evening had two purposes for Sheriff – showing our people some appreciation for all their hard work and also to raise money for a very worthy charity. I think we succeeded on both accounts. A huge thank you to everyone who helped organise and set up the event and to all who supported our fundraising efforts with a donation. You’re all amazing!”.

Still time to donate

We’re going to keep our JustGiving page open for a little longer in case anyone would still like to make a donation online.

JustGiving is simple, fast, secure and your details are safe. JustGiving will never sell them or send you unwanted emails. Once you donate, your money will go directly to the charity.
