Sheriff office team at the Spa!

Six members of our office staff enjoyed a wonderfully relaxing day at a local Spa on Friday as a reward from Sheriff for their hard work and commitment to the company.

Heading out to Sopwell House in St Albans, the team indulged in a day of ‘5 bubble’ luxury spa facilities, massage treatments and a three-course lunch. Take a look at this week’s blog to find out more.

Rewarding our team

Despite the pressures that the construction industry has faced in recent years, Sheriff Construction has prospered and grown as a business. That’s only been possible because of the hard work and dedication shown by all our teams, not only those out on site but also everyone who supports that work with back-office functions.

As a company, it’s important that we recognise and reward our staff and so we often organise rewards like trips and evenings out. Last Friday it was the turn of six of our office staff to get that bonus.

The team, which included Office Management, Finance and Marketing professionals, Administrators and our new QS Apprentice, set off for the Cottonmill Spa at Sopwell House in St Albans where they spent the day being completely pampered.

Having booked a ‘Club Classic Day, the team had access to all of the Club member facilities at the Spa. Set over three floors, this included an indoor swimming pool, gym, studio, several different steam/ sauna rooms, spa pools and relaxation rooms plus an outdoor area that had a massaging hydrotherapy pool, landscaped garden with loungers and hot tubs. Thankfully, the sun came out so the team were able to enjoy it all! Individual massage treatments and a three-course lunch were also part of what everyone agreed was an amazing day out.

With that little treat over, our thoughts are already turning to planning the next one. Watch this space!

Digitising our workforce management for improved control, safety and efficiency

Sheriff Construction has recently introduced the Causeway ‘Donseed’ digital workforce management system across both our brickwork and roofing divisions.

Usually used by companies much larger than us, we took the decision to keep up with this latest technology, which is giving us greater control of our sites, improving safety and increasing efficiency. Find out more in this week’s blog.

Arriving on the construction scene as a small gang of builders back in 2005, we have grown into a much larger enterprise that now comprises of two construction companies (Sheriff Construction and Sheriff Brickworks) plus two property development companies.

Men’s Health Week special: Time to get cancer aware

This week (10th – 16th June) is Men’s Health Week. Organised by the Men’s Health Forum, the week seeks to encourage all men to talk about and address any health concerns they may be experiencing.

When we think about health risks in construction, we usually consider things like physical injuries, musculoskeletal disorders or lung issues caused by exposure to dust and pollutants. But did you know that construction also has the largest burden of occupational cancer amongst the industrial sectors? What are the pros and cons of Brownfield sites?

With the housing crisis consistently listed among the top five issues facing the UK, it’s been interesting to note what the two main political parties are saying about this in the run up to the general election.

While the conservative party have not revealed many housing-related plans as yet, Labour are promising to build 1.5m new homes in the first five years of a labour government and say that brownfield sites will be the number one priority. As a subject that’s close to our business, we thought we’d use this week’s blog to explore the pros and cons of building on brownfield sites.

Everybody’s talking about the Big Weekend!

In case you missed it, Radio 1’s Big Weekend just came to our home town, Luton – entertaining over 100,000 people during three days of fantastic live music – including performances from Rudimental, Raye, Chase & Status, Ella Henderson, Olly Alexander and, of course, Sunday’s stunning headliner, Coldplay.
