On Friday 5th June, colleagues from Sheriff Construction came together to take part in a volunteer litter picking initiative around our office, nearby streets and local green spaces as part of the ‘Keep Britain Tidy Litter Heroes’ campaign.

The activity took place on World Environment Day and during Volunteers’ Week 2026, providing a fantastic opportunity for our team to make a positive difference within the local community while supporting wider environmental initiatives. Keep reading to find out more about the team’s work.

Sheriff’s Litter Heroes

A total of eight members of staff from Sheriff Construction volunteered their time for one hour during World Environment Day, with teams heading out across the local area equipped with hi-vis jackets, litter pickers, gloves and bin bags to help improve the environment.

Together, the volunteers collected eight bags of litter, removing waste from pavements, roadside areas and green spaces that are regularly used by the local community.

The initiative forms part of Sheriff Construction’s ongoing commitment to:

  • Supporting our local communities
  • Promoting environmental responsibility
  • Encouraging employee volunteering
  • Contributing positively through social value activities

By participating in the Keep Britain Tidy campaign, our team officially became part of the nationwide network of ‘Litter Heroes’ working to tackle litter and protect public spaces across the UK.

As well as helping improve the appearance of the local area, the litter pick also highlighted the importance of collective action and the positive impact businesses can have when they work together for the benefit of the community.
