Sheriff Construction was thrilled to receive a prestigious award from IKO last week.

The award, which placed Sheriff as ‘Highly Commended’ was made in relation to the roofing works that we have been carrying out at a development of 11 apartment blocks plus a nursery building in the upcoming London hotspot of Charlton.

Working across this project since May 2019, Sheriff Construction Ltd has been fulfilling all waterproofing works and roof finishes using several IKO products. This has included hot melt, single ply, liquid and a BUR torch system on cappings. This site was also the first where Sheriff’s team installed IKO Permascreed and this mastic asphalt fast screed and levelling solution has proved ideal for providing drainage falls as well as a stable base for the specified roof waterproofing system.

In addition to recognising the excellent standards of workmanship, quality and technical expertise at this project, IKO said they chose Sheriff for the award due to our company’s story and the wider support we’ve offered to the communities we work in.

That includes providing opportunities for young people to gain valuable paid work experience while they are studying for construction-related roles; operating within the context of as near a zero waste policy as possible; and supporting several local charities and causes (e.g. Mary Seacole, Luton All Women’s Centre and ZSL Whipsnade zoo) plus the team approach we took in raising funds for the Albanian earthquake relief effort in 2019.

Presenting the award to Sheriff’s Managing Director, Ekrem Mahmutaj and the office team was IKO’s Group Managing Director, Anthony Carlyle, and Regional Business Manager, Paul Wilkinson.

Ekrem said:

“We’re extremely thankful to IKO for recognising our company in this way. It’s a great achievement and the award is a real testament to everyone who works for us and/ or supports us in other ways. Because it recognises both our physical work and the stories that sit behind that, in some respects, this award reflects the ‘people, planet, profit’ ethos we’re trying to implement into our company’s practices. That makes it feel even more special for us and we look forward to our continued excellent partnership with IKO in future years.”
